Ourmedia.org mentioned in new book published by McGraw-Hill! Feb 6, 2008

Ourmedia.org is mentioned in a new book by author Tom Hayes titled "Jump Point: How Network Culture is Revolutionizing Business". You can pre-order the hardcover copy from Amazon.com here or BarnesandNoble.com here.

Here's a brief description from BarnsandNoble.com:

Take the leap into a new era of viral business-and tap into a billion-plus consumer base.

In Jump Point, Silicon Valley veteran Tom Hayes crafts a visionary, exhilarating, and often startling look at our fast-approaching business future. Welcome to the world of "pandemic economics"; a nonstop global economy characterized by network nation states, billion-selling products, and trillion-dollar markets.

Jump Point illustrates how the next economy will arrive at an inflection point just 1000 days away. Managers and organizations that survive the "jump" will find themselves in a strange new landscape of unfamiliar players and unforgiving power laws. From shape-shifting consumers, to competitive jihads, to the wealth-evaporating forces of runaway "mudflation," Hayes takes you on an eye-opening ride to the world of the jump point and beyond.

Free Web-Based Producer Collaboration Application Releases Large File Sharing Upgrade to the Public Oct 10, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO -- SpinXpress, the free web-based application known for its large file sharing capabilities, collaboration and publishing tools has just announced the release of its latest upgrade - which allows for the transfer and sharing of UNLIMITED file sizes. The latest version also offers hosted group services so that group members have access to all hosted files 24/7.

In addition to the personal discussion boards, wikis and simple online publishing functions offered in the current application. The latest version of SpinXpress has rich capabilities that enhance the whole collaborative file sharing experience, including:

  • Large file sharing without group creators needing to be online
  • Conserved hard drive memory space with enhanced file storage management
  • Limitless file size sharing supporting any/all file types

SpinXpress is a web-based application used by independent media producers around the world to collaborate and share in the production process. Both professionals and amateurs alike take advantage of the large file sharing capabilities - supporting all files (regardless of type or size) across a highly encrypted and secure peer to peer network. SpinXpress also makes it easy to publish directly from the application to some of the webs most popular video and audio hosting sites including Ourmedia.org, The Internet Archives and Blip.tv.

Dave Toole (CEO of Outhink Media and Developer of SpinXpress) says, "This new version is our best yet!". He continues, "We spent the last year working closely with some of today's most popular videobloggers, musicians and film producers to create a solution for collaborating simply and securely across geographical boundaries. The latest version of SpinXpress does just that!"

Vernon Black, a professional guitarist (Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston) and music producer in San Francisco says, "SpinXpress rocks! I can share entire Pro-Tools sessions with my band in New York, and deliver mix tracks with a new group I'm producing in Germany! No need to e-mail MP3's or ship entire hard drives across the country anymore. This is great!"

Ourmedia, Outhink Media join forces to highlight video producers' works Sept 12, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO -- Ourmedia, the world's first video hosting and sharing site, announced today that it has merged with Outhink Media, a company that serves the needs of digital media producers.

Under the merger, Ourmedia will continue to operate as an open-source site and educational resource that serves the digital media community. Outhink, which previously donated servers and considerable development resources to the site, is working to enhance Ourmedia with new features and capabilities.

"We thank Outhink for bringing us this far," said Ourmedia co-founder J.D. Lasica. "Now we're joining efforts to support the work of independent video producers."

Ourmedia was recently named one of the Top 50 Video Sharing Sites by Website magazine.

This week Ourmedia surpassed 140,000 registered members. The site will continue to offer free hosting and bandwidth for videos and audio podcasts through its partnership with the Internet Archive. But it will shift emphasis away from random video uploads and encourage members to create portfolios of more polished, professional works that would appeal to potential content partners or advertising clients.

Ourmedia recently launched a Channels feature (channels.ourmedia.org) that lets any member assemble playlists of media that pull content from any site. Members have created channels devoted to global warming, Free Speech TV, mashups, podcasting for teachers, Barack Obama, video gear and Finnish hobbies.

In addition, the Outhink team has begun work on a Producers portfolio page that will let Ourmedia members show off their favorite or most professional-looking works with the goal of helping to market and earn money for video producers, editors, script writers and others.

Dave Toole, Outhink Media CEO said. "If you want to show off your video chops and exchange ideas and best practices with fellow video producers, find editors , videographers, the best techniques, head to Ourmedia." "We are focused on helping the video producer community find the best place to market and monetize their video productions,"

Ourmedia also just beefed up its Personal Media Learning Center, a free resource that helps beginners become more accomplished video producers and podcasters. The Learning Center was singled out for praise by presenters at the Drupal Camp workshop for open-source developers in Los Angeles last weekend.

Outhink is best known for its SpinXpress tool (at SpinXpress.com), a free peer-to-peer software application that lets people share videos, photos, audio and other files of any size on a secure private network. The latest version of SpinXpress lets people not only share media files with friends and co-workers but also lets users publish works to Ourmedia or Blip.tv.

For example, many band members use SpinXpress to share musical works in progress and pass recorded files or samples back and forth until finished. The artists can then publish the finished work to Ourmedia or Blip or upload via the Web to YouTube or MySpace.

"We're living in a time of fundamental change in the media landscape," said Toole "We're all becoming media producers. After you've made a few videos, you may want to start your own Internet TV show, shoot community videos or even make an ad. We're providing tools to make it easier."
